Did You Know?
We have been told for many years, that smoking is not good for your health. Did you know that it also effects your teeth and gums? How about other full body (systemic) medications? They can effect your teeth and gums too! Even diabetes has it's effects on gums!
Smoking has both direct and indirect effects. It causes tooth staining, which we have all seen, but it also changes the way blood flows to the gums, making them more susceptible to gum infections, and therefore can also effect the bone health!
Diabetes can effect the blood flow to gums and the way the body responds to the plaque - again effecting the gum health and then the long term stability of teeth.
Bone medications - many of us take Prolia or other osteoporosis medications - this effects bone healing and can be a problem with certain dental procedures.
Interestingly, all of these problems are minimised by attending your dental surgery for your regular six-monthly maintenance!
Why not give us a call today to book a check-up and clean appointment, and be sure that your teeth and gums are as healthy as they can be!

Are you in a Health Fund?
The Australian Dental Association has recently had a look across the board at a lot of health funds and found a common query from patients.... "Why are my Health Fund rebates for dental treatment so low?" If you would like to know what was uncovered, visit www.ada.org.au/rebates and you can read all about it. You are certainly not alone. A lot of patients across a lot of funds are experiencing similar issues. See what else you can do!
Know your fund and know your year - this can also effect how you claim. A "health fund year" can be defined as a Calendar year (January to December), Financial year (1 July through to 30 June) or Anniversary year (Date of policy start). You should check with your Private Dental Health Fund about which "year" applies to your level of cover.
Notice to all patients:
