The Importance of Mouthguards
A mouthguard, usually a flexible piece of plastic that fits into the mouth, should be worn during all recreational and athletic activities to protect the mouth and teeth from serious injury – especially activities where there is contact or potential contact with another person, piece of equipment, or the ground. In fact any sporting activity can lead to accidental damage of the mouth and supporting tissues so we recomend a mouthguard for all sports!
There is a major difference between professionally made mouthguard, and a store bought version. The CUSTOM, mouthguartd is made precisely for you and it fits very well. It is more comfortable and is the most protective. In fact within the professional range of dentist-made mouthguards, there are several “levels” of protection depending on your sport and level of play.
Mouthguards can often be made without taking an old fashioned mold of the mouth – but using a digital scanning technique which makes the process even easier and more comfortable.
If you are in a health fund, many funds allow you a new mouthguard every season.
